Cleaning your stainless steel jewelry

Chouette Merveille jewelry is made of stainless steel. It is therefore durable and does not deteriorate due to its composition. Indeed, it is an alloy of iron, chromium, and carbon that gives the jewelry a long life. Despite all these qualities, stainless steel jewelry is not impervious to dirt. It is therefore essential to clean it regularly to increase the longevity and quality of your jewelry so that it does not suffer the ravages of time. To take care of your jewelry, there are various methods, most of which are inexpensive, that we are happy to share with you.

The Soap

It is the simplest, most economical and perfect cleaning method for daily maintenance.

To do this, you must:

  • Prepare soapy water with a soap such as black soap, Marseille soap or dishwashing liquid
  • Immerse your jewelry in this soapy water and rub it with a brush or cloth to remove impurities.
  • Rinse the jewelry thoroughly with clean water to remove soap residue and impurities.
  • Dry them completely with a soft cloth so that they are no longer wet or damp.

      Baking soda

Baking soda is known for its many everyday uses around the home. It's also a natural ally for cleaning stainless steel jewelry more thoroughly thanks to the small beads it contains.

Steps to follow for clean and shiny jewelry:

      • Prepare a paste by mixing a little water with a spoonful of baking soda
      • Gently rub the jewelry with the baking soda paste using a toothbrush or cloth
      • Rinse thoroughly with clean water, including the nooks and crannies, to remove any bicarbonate residue.
      • Dry your jewelry with a soft cloth so that it is completely dry and shiny.

          Lemon or white vinegar

Another essential in our homes is lemon or white vinegar! They are good cleaners for your jewelry. They can be used in two different ways:

The first method, the most classic and fastest:

          • Soak your brush or clean cloth in filtered lemon juice or white vinegar
          • Rub your jewelry gently with the brush or cloth
          • Rinse them thoroughly with clean water.
          • Dry them with a soft cloth
          The second, longer method:
          • Soak your jewelry in filtered lemon juice or white vinegar for about 20 minutes.
          • Rinse them with clean water
          • Dry them with a soft cloth to remove water and moisture.

Vinegar and baking soda for cleaning jewelry

We recommend regular maintenance with light cleaning with soapy water and spacing out deep cleanings every few months.
Of course, there are other grandmother's recipes that we haven't tried yet, like cola or toothpaste!

And there you have it, you know everything you need to know to care for your stainless steel jewelry and now all you have to do is give it a second life!
